Blackheath Property Transformation
This house began life as a dark, pokey chalet bungalow in the most glorious woodland setting. The original building felt cramped and dated, doing nothing to celebrate the location and beauty outside its walls.
The transformation was all about light and connection to nature. The brickwork was clad in oak, gable ends and dormer windows were added, and timber-framed glazing now floods the house with natural light while framing views of the trees beyond. What was once heavy and uninspiring now feels warm, characterful and completely at home in its setting.
Inside, the layout was opened up to create a bright, modern flow between the kitchen, dining and living spaces. The palette for the walls and kitchen was kept very pale and neutral, giving a calm backdrop that lets the outside come in. Colours from the woodland are echoed in pops of artwork, cushions, rugs and vases, adding personality without ever overwhelming the space.
Upstairs, the bedrooms make clever use of the roofline with cosy nooks and plenty of natural light. The master suite opens onto a balcony that feels like a treehouse retreat, while the children’s rooms are vibrant, fun and full of character. Bathrooms are fresh and pared-back, simple to live with but beautifully finished.
Perhaps the most striking change is how the house now sits in its woodland landscape. The oak cladding helps it blend naturally into the trees, while terraces extend the living spaces outdoors. Floor-to-ceiling glazing means nature is always in sight, bringing the woodland in at every turn.
From an unloved chalet bungalow to a modern, light-filled family home, this is a transformation that celebrates both design and its remarkable setting.
Interior design can completely change how a house feels to live in. Careful choices in layout, colour and materials make all the difference—especially in homes surrounded by nature. If you’re looking for interior design in Guildford, Blackheath, Shere, Cranleigh or the surrounding Surrey villages, creating a calm, light-filled home that connects seamlessly with its setting will bring out the very best in your property.
