When my clients first invited me into their Guildford home, it was mid-transformation. The property had been completely gutted and extended at the rear, and they had already taken the first step by choosing wood effect tiles for the main living areas. This set the stage for the rest of the design - warmth underfoot, and a timeless base that could hold its own against strong colours and standout pieces.

What made this project especially exciting was their collection of star pieces: artworks, furniture, and favourite colours they wanted to live with every day. My role was to weave all these treasures into a cohesive design - complementing rather than competing - while adding architectural detail, rich finishes, and a few unexpected twists.

I designed the kitchen and chose deep green cabinetry, paired with brass details and textured tiles to create drama without losing warmth. Open shelving layered with plants and ceramics brought vibrancy and personality, while a large island became the perfect hub for day to day life and entertaining. A statement light over the island anchored the space and gave it the edge it needed. Flowing out from the kitchen is the open-plan living and dining area. Here, the steel-framed doors and full-height glazing draw in light and greenery from the garden. The client chose bold, orange velvet sofas, so we took the walls dark to bring contrast and complement the sofas. A reclaimed timber dining table, oversized pendant lights, and the client’s artwork created a layered, atmospheric space that works as well for a quiet evening as it does for hosting a crowd.

My clients also wanted a dedicated home office that felt inspiring rather than boxy. We softened the space with blush pink walls, natural timber furniture and tactile finishes. The result is a calm, creative nook.

In the living room, comfort was the priority, but character came naturally. I worked with the clients closely to design the steel glazed doors and fireplace, which became strong architectural features, while layered textures, warm tones, and the family’s collection of books and art brought it all to life. It’s a space that feels lived-in yet elevated, perfect for evenings in front of the fire.

Bathrooms were designed to feel like sanctuaries, each with its own mood. One uses black-framed glazing and warm timber tiles for a contemporary, urban feel, while another plays with natural textures, brass fittings, and a freestanding bath tucked under a sloping ceiling – a serene retreat that feels spa-like but with a touch of drama.

No home is complete without its garden, and here we created an outdoor living area that feels like a true extension of the interiors. With layered planting, rattan seating and soft textiles, the garden is an extra room - a space to enjoy throughout the seasons.

This Guildford project is a perfect example of what happens when interior design works hand-in-hand with personality. Every room reflects my clients’ taste and treasures, but with a sense of flow that ties it all together.

This Guildford renovation is a perfect example of how interior design can completely transform a home. From designing kitchens and bathrooms to creating open plan living spaces, home offices and outdoor areas, every detail was considered to reflect the personality of my clients.
