Beautiful Guildford Home Interior Design
When I first walked into this Guildford home, I could see straight away that it had so much potential. The proportions were generous, the character was there - it just needed a little modernising to make it feel brighter, fresher and more in tune with family life. My clients wanted comfort and practicality without losing any of the charm that makes the house so special.
The first step was replacing the windows. It sounds simple, but it completely transformed the feel of the house, letting the light flood in and giving the whole place a crisp new look.
In the kitchen and utility, we focused on getting the layout right and choosing finishes that would stand the test of time. The cabinetry is smart and dark, balanced with natural textures and a beautiful oversized pendant above the island to anchor the room.
The open-plan kitchen, living and dining area is now the heart of the home. I love how the different spaces flow together but still each have their own identity. In the kitchen, the circular banquet seating makes the perfect spot for a relaxed breakfast or coffee, while the round dining table on the other side of the fireplace feels more grown-up and formal. The fireplace, quietly divides the two areas without closing anything off - it’s a detail that really changes the atmosphere depending on which side you’re sitting.
The living rooms were all about working with much-loved furniture the clients already had and layering in new furniture, lighting and accessories to create warmth and balance. We softened the look with tactile fabrics, earthy colours and plenty of texture — sheepskins, velvets, leathers - to make the rooms feel cocooning and inviting.
Colour played a huge part too. We chose tones that flow from one room to the next, creating a sense of calm throughout the house. It means every space feels connected, while allowing little moments of personality to shine through.
Now, the house feels like it has truly found its rhythm. It’s modern, but not stark. Stylish, but completely comfortable. Most importantly, it reflects the people who live in it - and that’s what good interior design is always about.
Good interior design can completely change the way a home feels to live in. From kitchens and open-plan spaces to cosy living rooms and bedrooms, thoughtful choices in layout, lighting, furniture and colour make all the difference.
If you’re looking for interior design in Guildford, Godalming, Farnham, Cranleigh or the surrounding villages, creating a home that balances comfort with style will not only transform your space but make it somewhere you’ll love for years to come.
